A Brief Overview of Ofuros

Are you looking to create a spa like feeling in your bathroom? Want to relax in the evening without going into the Oregon rain? Consider the Japanese soaking tub called an Ofuro. These small, deep tubs come with a seat inside and are not used to clean oneself, but rather to soak, warm oneself, and relax, much like an indoor hot tub.

PROPER USE

Ideally, you will shower before getting into the hot-tub-like appliance. They have a thermostat and can be adjusted to each person’s taste. When you’re finished, it is common that the next member of the house use it and you would rinse off in the shower. Heaters and covers come with many units allowing you to reheat the water and saved it for a couple days.

ADVANTAGE

The advantage to having an Ofuro instead of a small hot tub is the amount of water used, lack of chemicals and easy upkeep. A tub can be as small as 2′ x 2′ x 2′, but are typically around 4’ x 4′ x 3′. This type of tub will require about 100 gallons of water to fill. The smallest hot tubs are 175 gallon and must be monitored for chemical balance then drained, cleaned and refilled every 3 months making them more costly and requiring more upkeep. If you only require an occasional soak, this is a more practical way to go.

DESIGN

Ofuros can blend into any design: modern, rustic, old world, farmhouse or industrial. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials to fit small or large bathrooms.
